The clippers have now been replaced by a much upgraded service now. The
'Central Area Transit' midi-buses now run every 5 min and have
intelligent bus stops that tell you how many minutes you have until the
next bus. These displays are updated through a real-time GPS system which
plots the location of the bus. A display in the bus (as well as an
announcement) announces the stops as the bus approaches them. The main
problem of course is traffic - bus priority measures on traffic lights
would be ideal. I was there last year and tried the system - I was
impressed. However, the use of separate routes on weekdays and Saturdays
was a negative point. There should be more info on Metrobus' webpage.

Also Perth has a 'free transit zone' in the central area. This means
that you can travel across the CBD on a standard route bus (many of which
are through-routed).
