Hi all,

The Claremont Signal Cabin, built in 1906 and soon to be the last of the
traditional W.A.G.R. metropolitan signal cabins STILL in it's original
location, is back in business as of today, Saturday 4th April 1998.

Following an extensive restoration of the heritage-listed pedestrian
footbridge (the only access to the cabin), the cabin is now accessible once
more. Unfortunately, the 'restoration' also saw the removal of about a
third of the footbridge in what one local paper said "in unnatural haste".
Thereby hangs another sorry tale...

The Claremont signal cabin opens on the first Saturday of the months March
to December from 9:30am to 11:30am (officially) but if there is enough
interest, we open longer. The electrical interlocking and wiring has all
been re-instated, and we provide information demonstrations of the working
of trains through the Claremont station. 'Trains' are simulated and can be
seen on the illuminated diagram in the normal manner.

If you would like to come and see the cabin in action, please come today,
or on any of the following dates this year:-

May 2nd; June 6th; July 4th; August 1st; September 5th; October 3rd;
November 7th; December 5th.
THERE IS NO ADMISSION CHARGE on these dates.
Group bookings can be arranged by phoning the Claremont Museum on Western
Australia (08) 9386 3352.
