Australian National began running regular 160 wagon
coal trains on the 7th October 1988. Four dynamic
brake GM's were used on trials for a gross weight of
11,300 tonnes.
Ah ...the sound of 4 bellowing hard working EMD 567C's.
By this time the old GHA and GPA wagons had been fitted
with "hungry boards" to enable them to carry an extra
ten tonnes.

BTW .....in March of the same year, DL36 was tested
with a 6000 tonne coal train. It handled it no
problems, .........not bad for a single loco.
