V/Line Sprinter roster

There seems to be some serious problems with V/Line timetables. Most
regional centres don't have any up evening services on Saturdays. Bendigo
has a 16.25 up and Ballarat has a 16.50 up. Other places are a little more
fortunate with later local trains and some intercities. In summer it can
still be light at 8pm, so why no trains during the late daylight?

One practical suggestion would be to extend the 13.10 Kyneton (Saturdays)
to Bendigo. Stopping at Malmsbury and Castlemaine it should arrive at
about 15.20 and could form an 18.30 up. This would mean one more Sprinter
attached to the 19.25 down Bendigo on Sundays. It could either be detached
at Kyneton, run empty from Bendigo to Kyneton on Monday morning, or form a
4.40 up Bendigo Mondays only. This would mean an extra Sprinter idle in
Melbourne on Sundays which could be used for another day return, or to
cover failures.

I would also suggest extending the 21.40 Kyneton to Bendigo on Fridays
(arr 23.45), forming a 6.00 up Bendigo on Saturday replacing the 6.45 up
Kyneton. This would give a 6.00 up Bendigo Mon-Sat.

There could also be an 18.30 up Ballarat formed by the 15.45 down. The
balancing move could be a new 20.45 down on Saturdays.

I think Seymour deserves another weekday stopping service between 7.25 and
14.05, although I haven't checked the roster yet to see if this can be
done.

Cheers
