Sorry to differ Allan, but your own following post gives exactly the explanation
that you deny here. The reason why the RSC axles were equidistant and the RSD
axles were offset was the presence of the additional motor. So while you are
correct that the 40 class was a 'stock' RSC (apart from the cab profile), that's
not the answer as to *why* the axles were equidistant.

Hopefully this is now all clear.
