Just finished reading the September issue of Trains Mag
which covers the 75 years of EMD. No prizes for guessing
what Trains magazines favourite loco is ........right.!
But anyhow, they were all fired up about the new SD90MAC
6000 hp four stroke EMD. The new four cycle prime mover is
being tested at the moment, the "SD90MAC's" are running with
an EMD 4300 hp two stroke, they are designated SD9043AC, and
will be transplanted with the new engine after testing.
Trains says these are the heaviest and biggest single-engine
DE in the World, (I think some of our Pilbara Loco's would
come close.) 425,000 lbs (yes it is America) and 80 feet
long. UP have ordered up big.

The new prime mover will eventually be available with less
hp than 6000, any bets that Clyde will have one of these 4
banger EMD power plants out here ASAP.!

BTW .....EMD have proven that the Radial Truck/Bogie allows
a greater tractive effort than a standard bogie.
Question. Do the NR class Loco's have radial bogies.?
