The NDH railcars have a long and varied history, too long
for here but briefly.
The six of them were built by Commonwealth Engineering and
went into service in 1954.
They were 60 feet long and weighed 36 and a bit tons.
Powered by two GM Detroit 6/71 diesels.
One of them was converted to NADH3 carriage which was on the
Ghan way back in the early sixties as a daytime situp car, I
had the pleasure of spending a few hours in it way back
then. NDH 1 & 2 worked the old North Australia Railway back
in 1955 and were returned South in the sixties.
In 1971 (5 & 6) were sent to the NAR and remained there
after the closure in 1976 and were purchased by a private
buyer.
