The Westrail K class weren't the first standard gauge EEs in Australia, the
BHP Port Kembla EEs D1 - D8 were introduced from 1950 - 1952, these were
assembled by Comeng. The first of the 400hp locos was introduced in 1956,
these and all subsequent locos were built by EE at Rocklea.
The K class engine was most likely from one of the BHP Port Kembla (ex
Goldsworthy) K classes. Austrac do some engine overhauls for BHP.
