The loco certainly looks and sounds good, will look even better when
painted. I took some video on Monday at the top of Farmborough Heights and
the sound is very impressive.
BTW 3830 suffered a broken rivet in one piston while working the Cockatoo
Run the previous weekend, either Sunday or Monday I'm not sure. The loco
was examined at Moss Vale as it was making a "wheezing" sound when the
rivet was discovered on the running board. It appears that the rivet came
out of the piston assembly, travelled through the valve chest, up the
blastpipe and out the chimney, and came to rest on the running board, all
without inflicting ANY!! damage. The train was still able to return to Port
Kembla OK and then 3830 returned to Sydney for repairs. It came back to
Port Kembla on Friday night 3/10.
I also travelled on the trip with SMR18 and D6 around BHP on Saturday night
4/10. It was supposed to be SMR18 and Bronzewing but Bronzewing was failed
due to problems with the compressor which was overhauled after the problems
on the RTM tour. The trip went OK until SMR18 derailed just as we arrived
back at the Visitor's Centre for dinner, which made our dinner even later.
