There were some sevre problems on the city rail network this evening.
Not too sure what the problems were, but the few trains I seen on the
way home, were packed to the roof.

But I have a good story about my trip home, from Kings Cross to
Rockdale.

Anyway arrived at KC station about 4:30, on the platform was an
unusually large number of people (about the amount that congregates
when one train is late or cancelled). KC station made a verbal
anouncment that the train was all to Hurstville, which is what was
shown on the indicator. Moments later R1 (6 car train) arrives, with
first 2 carriges full (not unusual) and most of the rest sparsly
populated.

Train arives at Martin Place. Station anouncment (computer) calls
destination to all to Southerland. Human then adds that everyone
should join the train and change at southerland for connecting
services to Waterfall and Cronulla. Wait of about 5 mins before
departure.

Train arives at Town Hall. Computer anouncment that train is all to
Southerland. After about a minute human anounces that passengers fot
Waterfall and Cronulla should join for ROAD BUS services from
Southerland. Wait not long, about 2min.

Train arrives at Central. Think computer said it was all the
Southerland (Only). Announcment made about 3 more times. Then human
that all should join for bus to Waterfall/Cronulla. Wait about 5 mins.

Train arrives at Redfern. Station computer calls train as all the
Hurstville, twice. No other anouncments. Train departs after "normal"
dwell time. Many left on platform.

Train arrives at Sydenham. Computer anounces that train all to
southerland. No other mentions of buses and other passengers joining.
While at platform I observed the signals at end of platform were
RED/RED, but the next signal not far down the line was GREEN/GREEN.
(Very unusual me thinks) After several more calls and wait of about 5
minutes the station computer calls the train as Rockdale,
Kogarah...Southerland and then all to Cronulla. Several people join
train. Gaurd states platform anouncment is wrong, and that the train
is all to Southerland. Station anouncment about Cronulla made again,
this time by human. 1 min later gaurd comes over and states "This
train stops have been changed, {pause} again (At this stage the
carrige is in laughter), it now stops Rockdale..all to cronulla".
Several people upped and left the train. About 2 mins later (after
about 10 at Sydenham) the train is off.

Train arives at Rockdale (my stop thank god), and in human voice
anouncment is made that the train is Rockdale, Kogarahm Hurstville all
to Southerland, change at Southerland for BUS to Cronulla and
Waterfall. On my way out a pissed off passenger (not me) notified the
station staff that the train was changed to goto Cronulla. Station
staff said he was wrong (Argument ensured).

So what fucking system does city rail use to notify its staff (and
computers) of route changes. Looks to be to be carrier pidgon. Havn't
City Rail heard of telephones.

Anyone know where R1 ended up???. Would be interesting to find out.
Also anyone know if there were any trains behind, as the impression I
got was their wasn't any. (also until Sydenham the only train passed
was a 4 car G set at Town Hall. Other stations full down the line so I
don't think any were passed in the tunnels.
