Called Eltham station today (Friday 21/11), they weren't much help
(didn't even have an S circular), suggested I call 9438 5925.

The info I did get from the above number was:
Heidelberg Departures 10:20, 11:35, 12:55, 14:20, 15:40 or thereabouts
Diamond Creek Departures 11:10, 12:30, 13:50, 15:10, 16:30.
Drew up a graph, what we'll see are sparks crossing at Eltham as per
usual, the special will be preceeded by a down spark Eltham - Diamond
Creek (will have to carry a ticket), special arrive at Diamond Creek ex
Eltham (carrying the staff), will cross an up spark (ret the staff to
Eltham), then a down spark (returning the staff to DK), the up special
will depart (will have to be on a ticket), then followed by an up spark
(on the staff). Hence the special will lay-over at Diamond Creek while
up and then down sparks run through, before returning to Eltham.

This will happen 5 times, as I make it, the special will be at Diamond
Creek from around 10:45-11:10, then 12:05-12:30, 13:25-13:50,
14:45-15:10, 16:05-16:30. Note those times should be treated as a guide
only - I've worked them out based on the operational requirements. So
for those safeworking followers, the special will travel on a real
variety of safeworking on the day, particularly of interest is the
miniture electric staff Greensborough-Eltham, then Train Staff on down
journies Eltham-Diamond Creek, and Tickets on up journies Diamond
Creek-Eltham. Add to that the scenic trestle at Eltham, single-line
tunnel at Heidelberg, 1-in-40's either side of Watsonia and also either
side of Montmorency, single track working north of Greensborough, and
the Hursbridge line is a great place to be out taking photo's on your
Sunday.

It's also going to be a push-pull train (pity, no runarounds to add
further interest!)

Cheers,
Craig.
