Following is a diagram of the track circuiting arrangements on double lines in Sydney:

Ensure fixed width font is enabled.

Early Start |Road| End
Warning Circuit | | Circuit Down Track

Up Track End | | Start Early
Circuit |Road| Circuit Warning

The level crossing will activate when a train trips the start circuit, and stop again
after it is clear of the end circuit, providing an opposing train has not tripped the
early warning circuit.

This is so the gates will not get halfway up and then come down again.
