SAR Narrow Gauge enthusiasts will be saddened to learn that the 115 year old
stone shed at Orroroo has ceded to progress, and as of today is little more than
a pile of rubble.

The building was erected by the lines construction contractor, Keane, and was
last in use in the late 1970's.

A concerted effort by The Orroroo Goods Shed Committee, with strong local
support, failed in their bid to prevent the demolition. SACBH ( the states grain
handling body) declared that the building had to come down for OHS reasons. In
its place will go modern silos.

A memorial/model is to be erected in the area south of the railway line,
bordered by the water tower/ Pit and the station building.

The remaining structures along the line in usable condition are the the former
station masters residence at Black Rock, Orroroo station building, though this
may be under threat as a residential facility, Eurelia Goods and pump Shed,
Carrieton Gang residence and station building, a couple of fettlers cottages at
Hammond and Bruce railway station. Quorn remains the most complete station/yard
on the line.

A full story will be in the next Edition of The Partyline. Email me for
availability.
