Similarly here a typical problem is say a bad joint, which once would have
had a gang out to repair the next day. Usually this joint has a speed
restriction, say 40k's, and it's always at the bottom of a bank. All the
trains have to slow down, and lose their run at the hill.
The trouble is there are no gangs any more, and thr restriction lasts for 6
months or more. So up the bank at 40, power over the other side to make up
lost time, no coasting, then on the brakes for the next restriction.
WA is bad for this, but I think statistically Victoria is the worst for
%/track under restriction. I don't know the figures.
