Yet the Gold Coast Line was - along with the Cleveland Line -
dismantled by the Country Party government in the early 1960s.

And IIRC, much of the Queensland rail system was built by ALP
governments between 1915 and 1957 (to wander a bit more off the topic
here, the biggest problem with Qld politics isn't the National Party
or Labor Party governments per se: it's just that those governments
stay in office for so bloody long. Conservatives from 1899 to 1915;
Labor from 1915 to 1957; Country Party/National Party from 1957-1989:
Labor from '89 to 95 and Nationals now: FOUR changes of government in
98 years is more stable than Cuba under Castro (though less stable
than the Vatican).
