Also there are people in Alice Springs who think that the town will lose
its railhead status if the line is continued to Darwin.

Lots of road transport jobs would go, probably with the same or less rail
staff than now.

Rail passengers would probably keep going to Darwin as well, with loss of
patronage at the Casino as well.

The new proposal makes good sense, and would certainly create a high speed
freight and passenger corridor without a competing road route.
