This was the Maldon-Dombarton line. It was started and a number of works
were completed and then the funding was withdrawn by the Government. The
bridge approaches on both sides of the Nepean River at Maldon were
completed. The tunnel was started at the Dombarton end and extends for
approx 100 metres, but is normally locked with large steel gates. I have
never seen the western end of the tunnel, near Wilton, so I don't know what
work was done there. The formation was started between the western end of
the tunnel and the Nepean bridge, you can still see it especially to the
north of the airstrip at Wilton Parachuting Centre to the west of the
Freeway. The duplication from Allans Creek-Unanderra-Dombarton was also
part of this project and was completed. Masts for overhead were put in
between Unanderra and Dombarton but never used and just get in the way of
photos.
