No. Up is South or WEST. This is Queensland after all. I have heard
suggestions that the railways in Qld which were all originally built as
separate port to hinterland lines where westward travel was up the hill or
up country and so that became up. When the North Coast line, which mostly
connected the eastern ends of these line was built, the usual convention
was adopted. I have no idea what happens on lines that head east, such as
the Maryborough and Mackay Harbour branches.
