Have Countrylink done something to the timetabling of the Brisbane XPT?

Since when has Countrylink been competing against CityRail in the Newcastle
suburban area?

Does anyone know if this was a foul up in the indicator board display or a
special reason why the XPT had to make the additional stops?  I noticed
that Countrylink also ran a Sunstate Coach from Sydney to Brisbane on that
day departing at 3:00pm.  It was interesting seeing the BNE XPT destination
on the bus in Sydney instead of it's usual stamping ground between
Murwillumbah and Brisbane :)
