Alco's may not be well represented a/c age, however one must remember the 830
class of the SAR/ANR/AN/STC (or the 44 in NSW) are now pulling an average age of
40.

Certainly their numbers are thinning, and with AN chopping them up in Tass, few
are left, but they still work hard.

The group based in Port Lincoln still haul heavy trains of grain and gypsum on a
regular basis. The heaviest work is up Pearlah Bank into Port Lincoln.

The class are popular as they are renowned for their pulling abilities (only
excelled by the NT's) as well as their reliability.

The maintenance staff in Port Lincoln are renowned for their ability to turn a
heap of shit from Tass or the Mainland into a real pearler.

They shit over the GM-designed Clyde-build NJ's. The only advantage of the NJ is
their short nose,(and thus improved visibilty) and their more spacious cab. They
are not renowned for their pulling capabilities.
