Its probably worth mentioning that the 3 companies in this country that
actually haul real trains, namely BHP Iron Ore,Mt Newman Mining and Robe River
used Alcos , mainly C636s exclusively from 1968 to only just recently.
The Alcos are slowly being replaced by GE 4CW40s but over their life the C636s
would have hauled more tonnage than all the GMs in all the Govt Railway
systems in this country put together.
Its worth noting that none of these companies have had any real success with
their GMs.
The only Govt Railways that have similar locos still in operation are the
Westrail Ls , the PTC Cs seem to be junked.
Whether the 81s , BLs etc will still be around in 30 years will be interesting
to watch.
