What about the 1300 class? I have the actual manual for them around
somewhere. I remember many pleasant nights spent walking in front of a
triple header of 1320's sprinkling sand on the rail in the vain hope of
getting traction. It was often said that they would slip on Bondi Beach. It
was a firemans worst nightmare to be rostered on a Moura coal train when it
was raining. And you can bet your last dollar it would be a "Pommy"
consist. The English and water never got on well together. Of course the
drivers had their tricks to get up the hills. It involved something to do
with a piece of paper and the wheel slip relay. Naturally i never witnessed
such practices. :)
