Sydney R1 Class Tram 2001

>From this month's edition of Trolleywire comes the story of 2001, the body
of which was recovered from a property at Balmoral, not the beach but the
village on the Southern Highlands.

Fortunately the body was in very good condition, having been covered, and
contains many original mechanical parts. Negotiations with the property
owner led to a swap by the Sydney Tramway Museum with the body of R class
car 1749.

Car 2001 will be restored at Bendigo, where it arrivedon 19 April. Because
of the significance of its number, the tram will be used to promote the
planned Federation Line in Canberra. Firstly however, it is planned to be
used in a range of Centenary of Federation activities.
