Nice theory but it doesn't fit the picture of all three vehicles
beside the track with the undamaged Renualt in close proximity to the
undamaged trailer, still attached to the wrecked Land Rover.

Apparently in French there are very substantial safety fences where
motorways cross rail lines, so its not like it was completely
unforeseeable.
