The AustralAsia Railway Corporation says there will be no need for
further public funds for the proposed Alice Springs to Darwin railway
once financial closure is reached. An economic commentator says the
private consortium is likely to seek further government funds during the
construction and operation phases of the project, taking advantage of
its electoral importance.
