Point of order: each colony chose its own gauge. :)
But then some changed gauges, e.g. Tasmania from broad to narrow. SA
also has also regauged some lines in all sorts of directions, e.g. from
narrow to broad in the SE. Wolseley to Serviceton has been regauged
twice (narrow to broad to standard).
Some lines have been regauged in preservation.
Victoria also had five lines of 2'6" gauge. The only one remaining is
preserved at Puffing Billy.
Queensland has a lot of isolated 2' gauge sugar cane lines, and this
gauge was also used on some industrial railways.
There were a number of mining and timber lines of various gauges not
already mentioned.
