I belive the idea of converting to burn oil (diesel fuel ?) is to increase
its range - then coal does not need to be organised when it runs long trips,
it can be refueled at any local depot or from a road tanker.
The conversion if done, is required to be done in a non-invasive manner,
the oil burner able to be easly removed and the locomotive restored to
its 'proper state' if needed. Presumably when its boiler expires, the
oil gear is removed and the locomotive is more or less 'historicaly
accurate' as a static exhibit.
