Be nice what about the bridges!! and yet.....
an easement from Brooklyn to near Paisley is available. We did think that
the SG would have gone this way instead of via Newport. But what would you
do with Bunbury Tunnel
The Melbourne end was open cut, roof and cover, but the Tottenham end was
bored, and you could not afford to close it to lift the roof. The only
possibility would be to go the SAR way, bore a new hole along side the
existing one, then when operational, upgrade the main tunnel. This can be
done under Footscray Station, given the proximity of the Streets and
Housing, I have seen how they do it in Brisbane, where nothing is
impossible, because successive Governments, have had the WILL to do it
.You would have to build a new bridge accross the Captn's beloved
Marribynong, or you would need to break into the main tunnel some 50 meters
in to realign thenew track with the bridge.
Upgrade the Girder bridge, to lift the cross girders, and then you should
have a clear run to the wharves.
How many bridges would allow it between CRT and Adelaide?? which would give
Rail a real edge...see other threads.
