Old Records & Access

Just wondering if anyone, like me has tried to access records formally held
in the SRA Archives, and now at the State Records Office at Kingswood.

Went for a pleasant 250km round trip to find that most records are not
available for viewing due to a 30 year closure period.

Apparently, Carriage history cards, Steam locomotive history cards & the
like are considered sensitive- even annual reports freely available
elsewhere are covered by this order.

God help any Society trying to access vital information (plans or the like)
in order to complete the restoration of an item. Was also wondering how
future authors are going to access information- do they have to wait 30
years from the ending date of the series? If so there is going to be a
drought of technical information in books.
