According to "NSW Digest" ("Railway Digest" of today). T4801 was collected
from Tullochs at Rhodes by d/e 4006 on Friday 31/1/1964 and hauled to
Chullora Loco Workshops for weighing, before being transferred to Flemington
Car Sheds, where it was placed within the consist of a four car "S" (now "W")
set, replacing one of the 4700 series trailers. Trials commenced on Monday
3/2 as part of set S9B (C3735, T4801, T4718, C3728). With the delivery of
T4802 on Friday 28/2, both cars entered public revenue service on Monday 3/3
as part of eight car set S3. C3716, T4802, T4739, C3740, C3703, T4732,
T4801, C3720.

T4801 currently forms part of State Rail's heritage collection. It has been
fully restored, internally and externally, to original condition and colours
(completed with Department of Railways logo) and forms part of the preserved
heritage "W" set (C3702, T4801, T4814, C3708). The set will be making a
welcome reappearance as part of the celebrations on Saturday 3rd March,
marking the 75th anniversary of the introduction of electric trains to Sydney
(back on 1/3/1926).
