[NT] New Ghan Terminal proposal.

DELUXE TRANSIT CENTRE PLANNED
Alice Springs could have a new multi-million dollar
transit centre with a 4 star hotel and restaurant by
the end of next year.
The proposal has a 70 room three story hotel catering
for backpackers and the higher end of the market.
It will also house the offices of "coach companies".
The "development" is planned on NT Government land
opposite the newly developed "Western precinct"
adjacent Whittaker Street and the Stuart Highway.

Anyone vaguely familiar with the old narrow gauge and
the present standard gauge will be wondering just how
the Ghan will arrive at this new terminal without some
fairly clever and expensive trackwork.
In other words, the Ghan's arrival point will be moved
North of its present site to the other side of the
gantry road where the old narrow gauge railway town
once existed.
