Up to five people are feared killed in an XPT train crash 25km north of
Albury, near the New South Wales-Victorian border, the Rural Fire Service
said today.

The Melbourne-Sydney XPT train collided with a car at the Bells Line Road
level crossing at about 4.10pm (AEDT), killing the five occupants of the
car, a police spokeswoman said.

"It is believed that five people were in the car at the time of the incident
and no one has survived," she said.

"No passengers on the train have been injured."

The front carriage of the train has derailed but remains upright.

Emergency crews are still arriving at the scene and are evacuating
passengers from the train.
