No reason why not (though I suggest use of headphones).
Your main problem will be getting any shortwave reception at all. The
carriages act as Faraday cages, blocking signals with wavelengths longer
than about 5 or 6 metres (ie frequencies below 50 or 60 MHz). You will
hear AM radio if you're near enough to the stations. FM radio is even
better. You'd be better off with a VHF/UHF scanner, listening to amateurs,
CB, police, trains, ambulances, etc.
