Re: Latest news on Speedrail

Leighton are 47% (maybe 49% now) owned by the large German construction
company Hotichef. I recall they have quite a presence on Leighton's board.
Hotichef are the largest shareholder in Leighton Holdings (I think they also
have a 51% share holding in Leighton Asia) are because of they they really
control the company. John Holland, Thiess, Simon Eng. plus others are also
part of the Leighton Group. Leighton have been trying to get into large
infastructure projects for years, but they still earn most of their money
from contract mining & civil engineering in Australia.
Other major german construction companies in Australia are
Belfinger & Berger (Bauldstone Hornbrook)
Walter (Concrete Constructions)

Alstom and ABB have teamed up in Australia to do heavy engineering work. I
heard they have no chance of getting Redbank stage 2.

Transfield are 100% Austrailan owned, though the family who owns it are
Italian or Australian or both when it suits them.
