Changes to Central Station Entry and Exit Access

                      Tuesday September 19

Sydney 2000 Transport has advised that entry and exit
access at Central station has been modified to better
manage the large number of passengers using the
station during the Olympic Games.

A spokesperson for Sydney 2000 Transport said the new
Passenger Movement Plan had been introduced to
maximise one way passenger flows due to increased
capacity at the station.

"The new plan will allow smoother movement within the
concourse area and less congestion for people entering
and leaving the station during the games," the
spokesperson said.

"Central station has been operating well during the
first four days of the Olympics, however in the interests of
passenger safety some minor adjustments were needed.

"With passenger numbers due to increase later this
week it was important to improve passenger flows and to
avoid crowd gridlock at the station."

The changes to entry and exit access include:

                      Olympic and Suburban Trains
Entry via: Eddy Avenue at the Country Concourse; and
Devonshire St Tunnel (no entry from the corner of
Elizabeth Street or Chalmers St near the Sydney Dental
Hospital).
                      Exit via: Elizabeth Street; Chalmers Street;
Devonshire St Tunnel; and Main Country Concourse (no Eddy Avenue
                      exit).

                      Intercity / Country Trains
Entry via: Eddy Avenue; and Main Country Concourse.
Exit via: Country Platforms; (no exit via the commuter
tunnel at the Redfern end of the country platforms).
