It has been discussed. The argument is over who pays for it.

It was definately the better route. Avoids Ingliston Bank and Warrenheip
Bank.

Possibly for light loadings and passenger, but not for very heavy workings
(e.g. steel). Think about 10 years ago - 9169/MA2 (coil steel and other
loading) ran via Cressy on broad gauge.

The heaviest workings (e.g. steel) headed west, so the Adelaide hills
weren't the biggest factor.

Yes, and still do. 422s are rumoured to be taking over Adelaide - Tailem
bend banking durues soon. Or have they already started?
