That's regauging an open line without points. Stations are a lot more
complicated and a lot more expensive.

With continuous welded rail, it's common for the rail to gradually creep.
This is more pronounced on hills. Standard procedure is to cut about
10-15cm out, stretch the rail back up hill over several hours, then
flashbutt weld it together.
I would imagine a similar procedure would be used for regauging tight
curves, e.g. Warracknabeal triangle.
