In the interim until air conditioning is provided for the driver's cabs why
not confine as many non air conditioned sets as possible to the Illawarra
Line and relocate the A/C sets to the far hotter western & southwestern
areas?  In summer the Illawarra line experiences a far milder climate due to
its relative proximity to the sea & Botany Bay.  Further from Redfern onto
Bondi Junction most of it is in a tunnel - out of the heat of the sun.  Its
no substitute for decent working conditions but it may help.
