Re: Sydney tramway 'green lines'

Also in

According to "The Green Lines" (1966 AETA), there was no left turn from
Marrickville Rd into New Canterbury Rd because "When plans were drawn up for the
(Hurlstone Park) line it was proposed to extend the Dulwich Hill via
Marrickville Road service to Wattle Hill (Hurlstone Park). During the middle of
1912 the local residents appeared to be divided as to whether the new line
should be an extension of the Marrickville Road or the Addison Road lines which
both terminated at Dulwich Hill. The matter was resolved on September 13 1912
when Marrickville Council agreed with the other local councils that the Addison
Road service should be extended to Wattle Hill. The tramway authorities were
please to agree with the council's suggestion as a new hotel had just been built
on the South-western corner of Dulwich Hill terminus and it would have been
necessary to resume and demolish part of it to allow for the connecting curves
from Marrickville into New Canterbury Road had the Marrickville Road line been
extended."
