46 Class Locomotives

To all Aus.railers.

Hello once again. This topic takes me to one of my favourite
locomotives. The good ol' 46 Class.
4638 is running 3801 Ltd.'s Tour somewhere this month.
The 46 Class locomotive depot I was looking for a month ago, I have
come to terms that they all have been selfishly scrapped!!! and that'd
be about it.

But wait...it was this week I was told by someone about the 4620!
I'm sure you all know the 4620 was the locomotive that caused (Or
saying sentively, involved in) the Granville Disaster in 1977.

By any chance was there rumours coming out about the 4620 months after
the disaster? The rumours were that it was swapped with another damaged
locomotive and given a new number, in simpler terms, a cover-up!

Now what I would like to find out is:

-Is it possible for this to be true?
-By any chance if they were, would it be possible to determine
the "true" locomotive if the entire 46 class fleet were still here (In
static condition!)?
-Is there a system (or document I should say) that classifies a
Locomotive's serial number with its Rego? (I'd like to call them-
Registration)
-And finally, What are the only running 46 class locos still running
(or in operating condition) today in Sydney? (4615, 4638)

Remember we all have our opinions on this. But we should never believe
in rumours....unless they are true (mmm that dosen't make sense).
My opinion is that it could have been possible. But why necessary?

Anyway...cheers :-)

P.S. Let me just make sure, the Locomotive depot I was looking for is
in the boundary of the Lithgow Coal Mine museum?
P.P.S. Is there a place where I can see an actual working 46 (Mmm...
would the guys at Delec allow access?)
