I live about one kilometre from the Jolimont station in East
Melbourne. Most weekends I hear a shrill whistle similar to the old
steam train whistles. By the time I get to the station whatever made
the sound has disappeared.
I love watching the old steam trains, but I am not sure if this
produced the sound. I have spoken with the Met who put me on to
Steamrail, who tell me they don't run steam trains on the Jolimont
line, and don't believe the two other steam loco companies do either.
So I am drawing a blank.
Is there anyone who could help me to get information on this
mysterious whistle blower (no puns please <g>)?
Cheers
Ian
What you are hearing is the whistle of the steamboat on the Yarra.
I cannot think of its name just at the instant. I will recall it as
soon as I hit send:-)
