. and it always had flat batteries. Never trained in them, and cannot
remember ever seeing one at Brooklyn after the infamous collision with a Y
about that time...Plenty of shifts on F Class though!
Even ran two of them for a short time at Wodonga. Every Werribee and Sunbury
Pass I ran in those days was Y or a flat top T.........
I did drive a W once in about 1990 from the Loco Shed at Newport to 707
operations. The only reason I got there was that it was running, a quick
practice on how to make it move, and a very quick move across to Spotswood.
No one from 707 operations were not there to meet me, and as it shut down,
when I arrived, I secured it and went back to Dynon on a spark. Next day the
Boss asked me into his Office, wanting to know how I got it there, as it
could not be started, and had been sabotaged by persons unknown by cutting
the fuel lines...talk about the smell of an oily rag...
