BT also refers to second class trailers. In the original scheme of
things, most trailers were first class (quieter) and motor cars were
second class. There were also some ABM two class motor cars and BT second
class trailers. Also CM parcels vans.

The G trailers were classified this way because they were gas lit and
could be used outside the electrified area.

The BT Harris trailers were originally second class, partly because they
coupled to a 4 car set.
