Ants are actually quite a common cause of problems. They get into
signalling relays. Their electrical and mechanical characteristics are
not helpful to the successful operation of the relays.

In the southern US, fire-ants get into the relays. Their characteristics
are not helpful to the successful operation of the signalling
maintainers, either.
