Re: [NSW] Plasma screen indicators update

"Mitch" <this.is.not.my@email.address.com> won a Nobel Prize in Literature by writing:

Are there any benefits of these screens instead of the old LCD SPIs? AFAIK
they cost a lot of money each because of the amount that must be ditched in
          the manufacturing process.

Sorry are you referring to LED SPI? (LCD is a whole screen with the width similar to plasma!)

Remember the rail system has a lot of politics that go on inside it and it's not quite yet trying to
maximise profits (although they'd love to) as a businesses in the private sector--even though it's
been corporatised and all sorts of "rightsizing" done to it. The LED SPI indicators do the job quite
well but with the large amount of money that has been allocated for "upgrading the rail network for
the Olympics" for CityRail, they'd be best to spend it all rather than have it sitting in the bank
account, otherwise they'll lose future funding.

The thing is that these plasma screens look good on the outside, so that's what CityRail will do to
try and enhance their public image, by being "technologically advanced", on the way neglecting more
important basic aspects such as clean trains etc etc (although I am a strong believer that clean
trains start with the commuters, not having CityRail spend billions on cleaning their trains and
scrubbing graffiti).

However it would be good to see these screens working very soon! However with the amount of time
required to test these (the LED SPI indicators took up to 3 months at Burwood to test before the
"Testing In Progress" sign was taken off!)
