Coffins' Bay-Proper Bay Tramway

I posted some news re the tramway this time last year.

Back then, the intent wad that the line would be up in a month. However
a few delays have occoured.

For those who may not be familair with the line, the tramway was built
by BHP to haul fluxing limesand from a mine at Coffins' Bay to Proper
Bay, on the southern side of Port Lincoln, Eyre Peninsula in the early
1960s'.

The standard gauge line was built to a Heavy Haul standard and was 39.5
km long.

It was sold last year to a consortium who have now commenced the removal
of the rail, sleepers and Ballast from the corridor. It is anticipated
that the removal will be completed in a couple of months.

The Proper Bay Facility is to be redeveloped into a housing estate, and
it is understood all rolling stock, bar a few that have been set aside
for preservation, will be scrapped.

The last train to use the line was in 1993.

Sand is now being hauled to Whyalla by road (two B-double road ploughs a
day!)
