Two ways of achieving this.
1) Most *good* newsreaders have the option to go between variable and fixed
width fonts. Just tell the readers you are posting a table and they should
turn fixed width fonts on for that given post. Even still, if you look at
it carefully enough, you can work out where the tabs are.
2) Write the table into a WWW page, and post the URL (as DP mentioned).
BTW, I do respect the fact that Hubert did put [html posting] in the
subject, but that still borders on the fine line of netiquette, since
Usenet is primarily designed not for HTML postings, but rather plain text.
Plain text is readable by everyone, HTML isn't.
While on this subject, Binaries are subject to the same condition, however
there are newsgroups that exist for binary files, generally with the word
"binaries" within the group name. This however is still not the preferred
method of binary transport for a number of reasons which have been gone
into before. I bring this up, because of the small 'incident' we had during
the week where a person posted a binary file.
When I was in Sydney a couple of months ago, I only had a laptop and a
mobile connection. It took long enough to download this newsgroup as clear
text. Imagine if everyone posted binaries and HTML, it would take 5 times
as long to download. I for one, am not the only person who has downloaded
this newsgroup via a mobile connection, btw.
