[Adelaide] Japanese Train Simulators Sun May 7th.

There will be a hands on display of Japanese train simulators as part of the
JAFA (Japan Australia Friendship Association) Children's day event. These
are PC based simulators with cab views where you drive the train (via the
keyboard) dealing with signals, speed limits etc whilst at the same time not
being too heavy on the brake and stopping within +/- 1 or 2 meters at stops.
The views are produced by synchronising a video with your actions. Sounds
produced included train and station based announcements, wheel scrape,
braking, accelerator, the noise you get when you pass close to a bridge
pylon and so on.

Other (non-rail) activities at the Children's day include: martial arts
demonstrations, ikebana (Japanese flower arranging), shakuhachi and koto
(Japanese flute and stringed instrument), kite flying, origami and
calligraphy.

The Children's day is at Immanuel College, Morphett Road, Novar Gardens,
South Australia from 11.30 am till 4 pm. The simulators will be set up in
the foyer of the Century Theatre. Everybody of all ages is welcome to view
the displays and try the activities. Admission to the day's activities is by
gold coin donation.
