Concept: The Diesel & Electric Locomotive Ring

The concept is for either of the possible Webrings to be created.

1. Simply a webring for diesel and electric sites. It could grow very large
over time.

2. A super ring whose "members" are other rings. These rings can be
organised
into subareas of interest, such as specific manufacturers of locomotives or
specific countries. The super ring has a lot going for it if you don't want
a
lot of sets of links on your pages pointing at different rings that overlap.
Your page links would point to the master page for the super ring, as well
as
to other sites in the subring that you are subscribed to.

personally I am in favour of the second concept. I have registered
"dieselelectric" with Webring for a ring. The idea is that the membership of
this ring will not be individual sites, but other rings that cover diesel or
electric locomotion. I have also registered "englishelectric" with Webring
because I author two sites in NZ that preserve about half of the 20 or so
preserved locomotives in NZ from this one manufacturer. Under the proposal
this would become one of the member rings of the super ring.

I do not personally want to have the responsibility of organising sub rings.

I
would leave it to people who are interested in those rings to organise these
things themselves and just sign their rings up to the super ring as it suits
them to.

The whole idea will succeed only with the support of the railfan community.
Your thoughts are welcomed.
