New orange lights in City Rail tunnels??

Hi

I have noticed recently that there are now groups of bright orange
lights a short distance into tunnels from Town Hall and Edgecliff
stations on the Eastern Suburbs line (and maybe elsewhere). These
lights are extinguished shortly before a train comes.

Can anyone explain their purpose? Possibly there has been an
explanation on this group before, but I must have missed it.
